Dredging activities are currently being undertaken by Hengyi Contractors, LSL & WEC JV Sdn Bhd, at the Western Channel opposite the Muara Port. The dredging is expected to be completed in December 2015. A Cutter Suction Dredger (CSD) vessel CHANGSHI 4 is currently deployed to undertake the dredging works. Trailing Suction Hopper Dredger (TSHD) HANGJUN 19 is on standby for post dredging activities.
The dredged materials are used for backfilling onto the island with a view to elevate the plant site by at least 4 meters. The dredged materials are allowed to settle with the help of a Dynamic Compaction process allowing a much faster rate of settlement compared with the conventional method.
Embankments have been erected on the Eastern side of the island for reclamation to take place. Along the Southern shoreline, embankments have been erected and lined up as part of the island’s shore regularisation plan.
Approval for construction of two cargo loading and off-loading jetties at the South Eastern tip of the island has already been obtained and will commence in2016.Preparation on the design, location and construction of a Single Point Mooring facility for the importation of Crude Oil is underway.
Construction works on the Pulau Muara Besar bridge linking the island and the mainland has begun. Hengyi is in constant liaison with the consultant and contactor on interfacing the bridge project to Hengyi’s refinery project on the island.
