14 Students from Batch 11 of UBD–ZJU Joint Scholarship Programme Celebrate Graduation at Zhejiang University

Zhejiang University, Hangzhou, China, 19 June 2025 – Fourteen (14) students from Batch 11 of the Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD) – Zhejiang University (ZJU) Joint Scholarship Programme celebrated the completion of their academic studies at Zhejiang University in a graduation ceremony held in Hangzhou, China.

During the ceremony, the students were formally presented with their graduation certificates, marking the successful completion of one and a half (1.5) years of study in Chemical and Process Engineering at ZJU. This cohort represents the eleventh (11th) batch of students awarded under the programme.

The UBD–ZJU Joint Scholarship Programme was established through a collaboration between Hengyi Industries, UBD and ZJU to develop Brunei’s future talent in the petrochemical and process engineering field. The four-year degree programme includes fully funded academic studies at ZJU, where students are equipped with essential technical skills and global insights, preparing them to contribute meaningfully to Brunei’s growth and development.

With the completion of their studies at ZJU, the students will return to Brunei Darussalam in July to continue their final year of studies. This includes industrial training with Hengyi Industries at the Pulau Muara Besar petrochemical complex, offering hands-on experience in a real-world operating environment. Upon successful completion of their studies, students will be offered employment opportunities with Hengyi Industries.

As part of the Hengyi Future-Ready Initiative under the company’s CSR program, the joint scholarship aims to nurture the local talents of Brunei Darussalam with the knowledge and capabilities needed to become future leaders in the petrochemical industry. To date, a total of 202 students across 12 batches have been awarded the scholarship, with 135 scholars having successfully completed their studies and now contributing to the company as full-time employees at Hengyi Industries.

Through this initiative, Hengyi Industries remains committed to achieve excellence in petrochemical development by pursuing innovation and business sustainability, while supporting the goals of Wawasan Brunei 2035 via the development of an educated, highly skilled, and accomplished workforce.
