18 Politeknik Brunei Students to Continue Their Studies Overseas in Lanzhou, China under Hengyi Industries-PB-LPUVT Joint Collaboration Programme

Brunei International Airport, 4 March 2025 – Eighteen students from Politeknik Brunei’s Diploma in Chemical Engineering programme have departed for Lanzhou, China, where they will continue their studies at Lanzhou Petrochemical University of Vocational Technology (LPUVT) for one semester. This milestone follows their recent signing of the Sponsorship and Conditional Offer of Employment (CoE) agreement under the Hengyi Industries-Politeknik Brunei-LPUVT Joint Collaboration Programme on 25 February 2025.

Under the agreement, Hengyi Industries will provide full sponsorship for the students’ studies abroad, allowing them to gain valuable academic knowledge in the petrochemical industry. Upon their return, they will complete their diploma with an additional six months of industrial-based learning at Hengyi Industries, equipping them with hands-on experience in a real-world industrial setting.

As part of the CoE, the students will also be offered employment opportunities with Hengyi Industries upon successful completion and graduation from their programme.

Established in March 2021 under Hengyi Industries’ Hengyi Future-Ready initiative, the Joint Collaboration Programme aims to nurture future professionals in the petrochemical sector by providing students with practical skills and industry-relevant knowledge. To date, a total of 490 students have been awarded the CoE.

Three student representatives shared their thoughts and excitement about embarking on this journey, expressing their enthusiasm for the opportunities ahead:

Mohammad Afif Bin Ahmad Aidawardy @ Mohammad Afi Fakhrullah:
I feel incredibly excited and very grateful for the opportunity. It will allow me to experience a new academic environment far from my family and home. I’m looking forward to experiencing the academic atmosphere in Lanzhou, learning from expert professors, and engaging with students from different countries. I’m also eager to explore the city, try the local cuisine, and gain a deeper understanding of Chinese culture.

Mohammad Daniel Hariz Bin Haji Shahwardy:
Alhamdulillah, I feel grateful and honoured to be able to further my studies in Lanzhou. For me, this opportunity is a once-in-a-lifetime learning experience that will benefit me in the future. I'm also curious and excited to learn the modules being taught at LPUVT. Since Lanzhou is known for its rich culture and history, I'm really looking forward to visiting its historic places and trying its diverse variety of local dishes.

Nur Asyura Binti Haji Murdy
I'm thankful and delighted to have been selected as one of the individuals to study in Lanzhou, as I am the first in my family to pursue engineering. I look forward to learning new things, such as the cultural differences between Brunei and China, the surrounding vibe, and stepping out of my comfort zone, where I can learn to be independent. This will help me grow and discover new skills both in myself and in my field of study.
