Hengyi Industries Celebrates Graduation of 14 Students under Batch 11 UBD–ZJU Joint Scholarship Programme

Universiti Brunei Darussalam, 11 August 2026 – Hengyi Industries Sdn Bhd (Hengyi Industries) celebrated the graduation of fourteen (14) students from Batch 11 of the Universiti Brunei Darussalam – Zhejiang University Joint Scholarship Programme during the Universiti Brunei Darussalam 38th Convocation Ceremony, marking the successful completion of their four-year academic journey.

Established through a collaboration between Hengyi Industries, Universiti Brunei Darussalam (UBD), and Zhejiang University (ZJU), the UBD–ZJU Joint Scholarship Programme was created to develop highly skilled Bruneian professionals in the field of petrochemical and process engineering.

Throughout the four-year programme, the students completed academic studies at UBD, fully funded overseas studies at ZJU in China, and industrial training at Hengyi Industries' Pulau Muara Besar Petrochemical Complex, providing students with both academic knowledge and hands-on experience to better prepare themselves for working life after graduation. Upon successful completion of the programme, the graduates are offered employment opportunities with Hengyi Industries.

This year also saw outstanding academic achievements from several scholars under the Joint Scholarship Programme. Three (3) Batch 11 scholars graduated with First Class Honours, while two (2) scholars from Batches 11 and 12 were awarded the UBD Book Prize. In recognition of these accomplishments, Hengyi Industries provided a sponsorship totalling BND 2500 to the following scholars for their exceptional academic performance:

First Class Honours

  • Ms Teo Kai Lee (Batch 11)
  • Ms Chong Zi Wei (Batch 11)

UBD Book Prize

  • Ms Teo Kai Lee (Batch 11)
  • Ms Kelly Ang Wei Xuen (Batch 12)

The Joint Scholarship Programme forms part of Hengyi Industries' Future-Ready Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative, which focuses on nurturing local talent and equipping them with the knowledge and skills required to excel in Brunei Darussalam's growing downstream energy industry. To date, 187 students have been awarded scholarships under the Joint Scholarship Programme.
